In 2014 Leila Dunbar was elected to the National Appraisal Foundation Board Of Trustees. Her current term ends in 2017.
In 1987 The Appraisal Foundation (TAF), an independent non-profit organization, was authorized by Congress with the mandate as the source of Appraisal Standards, Qualifications and Practices for real estate, business valuation and personal property appraisers. Its mission statement is to promote professionalism to ensure public trust in the valuation profession, accomplished through the setting of standards, qualifications and guidance regarding valuation methods and techniques.
The Board Of Trustees works with full-time staff to oversee the TAF and nominate appraisers to serve on its Standards, Qualifications and Practices boards. The Standards Board reviews the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice, with an updated manual of rules, standards and advisory opinions issued every two years.
Currently Leila serves as the Chairwoman of the Committee for Consumer Affairs and Outreach. The committee has produced a video teaching aid “What Every Homebuyer Should Know,” provided expertise for numerous articles and is currently working on an Appraiser Speaker Program to educate users in how to find qualified appraisers. She has spoken to the TAF in regard to wine appraising.
