About Leila

Leila Dunbar is one of the top pop culture memorabilia appraisers in the country, with specialties in sports, entertainment, pop culture, comic and animation art, auto, space, aviation, motorcycles, wine and many other sub-categories of pop culture memorabilia.

With more than thirty-five years in the pop culture memorabilia business, she is one of a small group of specialists in this area with both extensive auction appraisal experience and expertise. Leila has sold items/collections from $5 to $5 million, first with her family business (1987-1999) then as director of Sotheby’s Collectibles (1999-2008).

Since 2008, Leila has prepared more than 500 appraisal reports for insurance coverage and claims, non-cash charitable contributions, estate settlement, litigation and for potential sale. Leila is a qualified IRS appraiser and prepares appraisals following the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice established by the Appraisal Foundation in 1989, where Leila has served as the Chair of the Board Of Trustees.

Leila also provides auctioneering, public speaking, expert witness, media commentary and brokerage services. Since its inception in 1996, Leila has appeared as an appraiser on the long-running PBS hit series Antiques Roadshow.

In 2001, Leila earned her auctioneer’s license, taking the podium for most of Sotheby’s Collectibles live auctions. She has also served as auctioneer for Julien’s Entertainment Auctions, Augusta Couture Auctions, and Bertoia Toy Auctions.

Leila has given approximately 75 sports, entertainment and pop culture memorabilia valuation related lectures to the AAA, ASA and ISA appraisal organizations, Wharton School Of Business, the American Bar Association and the Appraisal Foundation, as well as to the general public.
